Married: check! Parents: check! Homeowners: CHECK!

As of today, Scott and I are homeowners!

We began our search in March when we moved back from the UK and toured countless homes online and in person.  As soon as we decided to put our search on hold until the fall, I spotted what would become our very first home.

I was on a walk with Eliza one warm afternoon in early-May when a little boy hollered at us from his cul-de-sac, wanting to say hi and ask a million and one questions about the baby.  I waved and spoke briefly to the sweet family while noticing the cute brick ranch for sale in the background, all the while thinking nothing of it, since we had seen the interior online and decided that it wasn't for us (plus it had a pool which Scott was completely against).  Eliza and I said our goodbyes to the little boy and went back on our way.  However, I just couldn't shake the really great feeling I had about this house.  So much so, that I decided to take another walk around the block (and may I mention that this was the same exact block on which my family has lived since 1987?).

This time, we stopped and talked to the little boy's mom, asking about the house and the surrounding neighbors.  She said that the house was in wonderful shape and had many updates and that the neighbors were all wonderful and very mindful of the kids in the cul-de-sac.  I took a brochure of the house and once home, called Scott.  He took another look online and agreed that it might be worth taking a tour that weekend.  So with little expectations, yet hopeful hearts, we toured the little brick ranch.

And loved it.

There are many things that still need updating but they are fun projects that require more creativity than hard hats.  We are really looking forward to getting into our new home and making it our own.  It's a small house, but not too small - tailor-made for our little family of three.  It has a pool - perfect for those swampy Virginia summers.  And a wonderful backyard and inside layout for entertaining.

We're giddy with excitement and anticipation over our new home sweet home and are so thankful for that little boy who cajoled us into that our cul-de-sac that wonderful springtime day.
