A Place to Call Her Own, Part II

After posting this photo on Facebook recently,

a friend of mine brought to my attention that I never posted an update on Eliza’s room since posting my initial progress. Since it is finally done (for now anyways), I thought it was a good idea to show how far we've come.

I’ll start with Eliza’s favorite design piece, her rug.

A gift from my mom, Eliza loves her rug. And who can blame her, it’s the. softest. rug I’ve ever laid...feet on. Eliza rolls around on, hugs, rubs, and kisses her rug daily.

She also loves her bed. And the photos above it. She checks them out every so often and gives me a satisfactory smile. Can’t ask for more than that. The pendant above her photos was bought in London to match her toddler bed set, but it was so cute, I had to put it up now.

She has to sleep with all three of her favorite blankets: the white one that her Mimi made her, the patchwork knitted one from her friends in London, and the cable-knit one that came with her Moses basket.
And her two best buds, Snuffles and Molly, of course.
Moving on to the left side of her room...

...we have the glider that my mom skillfully sewed for us, along with the curtains that were recently hung. I can’t tell you how happy I was to finally take down her ugly (yet useful!) construction paper black out shades. It made such a big difference in the room.

A daily reminder (which is mostly ignored).
My mom sure does know her way around a sewing machine!
Next to the glider, is of course the bookshelf. This bookshelf was made for my mom by her father, passed on to me, and now Eliza. We have some of her very special books on top and her favorite nighttime books on the bottom. Hanging above is a frame with some pretty handkerchiefs we've collected: one that Scott and I bought her in London that was embroidered with an ‘E’ and one that my aunt gave to me for my wedding day.

Above the glider is a shelf that my mom bought and I painted. Hanging on it are Eliza’s tutu, a firelady’s hate, her fairy wings and a beautiful gown Eliza’s cousins gave to her. Sitting on top is her tea cup collection from Daddy and her Uncle Doug, along with several other special knick-knacks.

On the right side of her room...

...is her printer’s box from London filled with all of her tiny treasures, including the Empire State Building, a shell from South Africa from a girlfriend of mine, a tiny pig my from my family's printer's box, her collector’s plate from the Royal Wedding (much to Scott’s disdain), and much more.

And, of course, her dresser. We have her changing pad on one side and a couple special items on the other.

A girl has to have good silver!  The baby cup was a gift from our dear friends in Norwich, England and the brush came from Eliza's Great Auntie Caroline.

And finally, here’s a closer view of the color we picked, Crushed Peony. It’s a nice light pink/purple/gray that gives the room just enough hint of color.

I’ve waited and waited to have a room to decorate for my little girl. I’m so happy that she finally has a room to call her own, but more importantly, that she loves it as much as I do.
